Livonia-based Team Schostak Family Restaurants wants to bring more pizza to Michigan, starting in metro Detroit.

According to Executive Chairman Mark Schostak, TSFR has added Seattle-based MOD Pizza to the company’s brand portfolio and is committed to opening 25 MOD locations in Michigan over the next five years. The company will act as a franchisee of MOD and focus on opening locations in Southeast Michigan.

TSFR has already signed the first two leases for MOD and plans to open the first location in the spring. The first is a 2,600-square-foot space at Northville Park Place, a 65,000 square-foot mixed-use development at the corner of Seven Mile and Haggerty roads in Northville. The second lease, also a 2,600-square-foot space, is on Middlebelt Road just south of I-96 in Livonia. Northville Park Place is jointly owned by Bloomfield Hills-based REI Investment Group Inc. and Livonia-based Schostak Bros. & Co., while the second location is owned by the Schostak family real estate company

MOD Pizza offers build-your-own pizza, along with draft beer, wine, handmade milkshakes and other house-made beverages.

“We were looking to expand into the fast-casual restaurant space and we concluded that the pizza space provided a big growth opportunity for us, and there was a new niche and we wanted to be become a part of something exciting,” Schostak said.

That niche is build-your-own pizza, which MOD offers along with draft beer, wine, handmade milkshakes and other house-made beverages.

“Primarily, the locations will be in the Detroit area because we want to build a critical mass of locations and reach some type of efficiency both in operations and marketing,” Schostak said.

MOD will be the first fast-casual restaurant brand in the company portfolio. The other brands include Applebee’s, a casual dining restaurant; Del Taco and Burger King, quick-service restaurants; and Olga’s, a family dining restaurant.
